Boris and Yasser

Club Members

Borris & Yasser, 13-year-old twins, both love soccer. Boris wishes to be a chef and Yasser a police officer once they grow up. If they could go anywhere, the boys would go to Peru where they grew up.

“We like the Club because we can play soccer there. Boys & Girls Club makes us feel normal and happy, we are happy for the friends we have made here.”

Adrian Aguilar

As a former Club member, I see the value Club has for our community’s children. Children of all backgrounds. It’s a great complimentary service to our local school system to help our children flourish academically too. Club has taught me the importance of giving back to the community.

All About Me!

Here's where you can get to know all about me! Check back often - as the event gets closer, more of my story will be available.

When a family from Peru moved to the area, they were looking for a place for their kids to adapt to American life. We met this family at a resource event night at Pierre Moran where the parents were taking English classes. The parents had to translate through their oldest (18) daughter. After a 30 minute conversation the twin boys, who attended Beardsley Elementary, had applications and information to join the Club.

The next day at 10am the parents arrived at the Club where they could speak with Alexa in Spanish and get a tour of the Club and ask questions. This happened about April of 2019 and the boys have been coming to the Club daily, the parents have been involved in parent nights, and they have attended special events for the Club as well. We were able to provide a one-of-a-kind soccer (favorite sport) experience to attend the Liverpool match at Notre Dame Stadium. The entire family had personalized Peru jerseys and were so thankful to be there with the Club.

These young men continue to flourish at the Club, picking up English along the way. They feel confident there are two adults who speak fluent Spanish if they need support. They feel a part of the Club since they get invited to events and trips. All of this has allowed us to build a relationship with them and see them grow. We awarded them Youth of the Month for August 2019. Please join me in congratulating these wonderful young men and their family who call the Club, Elkhart, and the US their new home.
